CISF likely to replace security at J&K airports

SRINAGAR, Nov 15: Union home ministry is set to replace existing security with Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at all airports across state.
Sources said the CISF will take over once the concerned Ministry gives its nod and all the formalities required in this regard are completed.
The Ministry of Home Affairs in its formal letter to the Ministry of Civil Aviation has asked the latter to mention that the deployment of CISF at the airports in Srinagar, Jammu and Leh has been considered by it in consultation with the security agencies.
“The undersigned is directed to refer to D.O letter no. AV.13024 /752/2017 –AS dated August 28, 2018 of Joint Secretary, M/O Civil Aviation, on the above mentioned subject, and to mention the deployment of CISF at the airports in Srinagar, Jammu and Leh has been considered in this Ministry in consultation with the security agencies,” reads the Home Ministry letter vide no. VI-23018/07/2012-VS.
The letter has been sent to the concerned on 12thof this month in which it has been mentioned that Central Industrial Security Force will be deployed at Jammu, Srinagar and Leh airports on the same terms and conditions on priority to enable to take over the security at above airports.
Talking to ‘Kashmir Times’, Director General of Police (DGP) Jammu and Kashmir, Dilbag Singh said he has no information about any such move.
“I did not receive any such information,” said the DG, however he was quick to add that the development might be on cards as he doesn’t remember everything.
“It has been decided to deploy CISF at Jammu, Srinagar and Leh airports on the same terms and conditions which are in force for deployment of CISF at other airports,” the letter reads.
The CISF provides security cover to 300 industrial units, government infrastructure projects and facilities and establishments located all over India.
Industrial sectors like atomic power plants, space installations, mints, oil fields and refineries, major ports, heavy engineering, steel plants, barrages, fertiliser units, airports and hydroelectric/thermal power plants owned and controlled by Central Public Sector Undertakings (PSU’s), and currency note presses producing Indian currency are protected by CISF.
