IGP Kashmir warns against uploading ‘killing’ videos

SRINAGAR, Nov 19: Terming the recent killing of two civilians by militants in Shopian south Kashmir as militant “crime”, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Swayam Prakash Pani today said those “circulating” execution videos on social media will be dealt with sternly.
The provincial police chief said since “proliferation” of such content is also a crime; people who circulate terrifying stuff on social media will be dealt with sternly.
“What happened recently is reflection of gruesome terror crime. Matter is being investigated as to how and who uploaded the videos on social media as propagating such indents is also a crime,” said Pani talking to reporters on the sidelines of wreath laying ceremony of CRPF personal who lost his life in militant attack in Kakpora Pulwama Sunday evening.
IGP Kashmir said that a case has been registered with regards to the circulation of execution videos on social media and those found involved in proliferation will be dealt with accordingly.
Pani said police with the assistance of service providers will be soon able to nab handlers who upload fearsome videos on certain social media platforms.
It is pertinent to mention that militants abduct seven civilian in south Kashmir’s Shopian district for allegedly tipping government forces off presence of militants.
Last week, Hizbul Mujahideen militants shot dead a teenager, Nadeem Manzoor Dar alleging that he was an army informer while unidentified assailants slit the throat of a 19-year-old baker, Huzaif Ashraf. In a first, militants also filmed their killings and released the videos.
The five others who were abducted on similar charges in Shopian were later released by the militants.
IGP said hoped that the handlers who propagate terrifying videos filmed by the militants while executing civilian teenagers will be identifies and brought to book soon.
These videos are being uploaded on certain handles. As I already said we are investigating the matter and hope with the cooperation of service provider and others we will be able to nab these handles soon,” IGP Kashmir added.
