HYDERABAD, Dec 9 (Agencies): The Bharatiya Janata Party has claimed that there will be no government formation in Telangana without its support. Telangana BJP Chief K Laxman said that the party will be a part of the government if they are not able to get a majority on their own.
"There can't be a government without BJP in Telangana. In case people have not given a clear mandate we’ll be a part of the government," Laxman said.
However, he added that the party will not join hands with the Congress or Asaduddin Owaisi's All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM). "We'll not support Congress or AIMIM, but other options are open. The decision will be taken in consultation with our high command," he said.
Assembly elections in Telangana are expected to be a contest between the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Congress-led People's Front.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has contested on all assembly seats on its own. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao's Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) has also fought the polls alone in all seats, but the Congress is part of the grand alliance along with Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS).
Several exit polls have predicted a win for TRS, while some others said the contest would be close between the KCR-led party and Congress-led People's Front. Counting of votes would be taken up on December 11.
Telangana has recorded a turnout of 73.20 per cent in the assembly elections with the highest turnout of voters in Madhira Assembly constituency at 91.65 per cent. The lowest percentage of votes was polled in Charmina.
40.18.
Several people in the state had on Friday complained about not being able to vote as their names were missing from the voters' lists.
Shuttler Jwala Gutta was among those who filed a complaint of not having her name in the list. Reacting to her complaint, Chief Electoral Officer Rajat Kumar said he ordered a report from the concerned district electoral officer on the issue.
