India's power hitting coach Apurva Desai joins BPL team support staff

MUMBAI, Jan 5: Apurva S. Desaii, who has been a visiting faculty coach at the BCCI's National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore has been signed by one of the teams in Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), it is learnt here.
The 44-year-old Desaii, who played for Gujarat, is known for his art of coaching power hitting to the batsmen.
Confirming exclusively over telephone from Bangladesh on Saturday morning, Apurva S Desaii said, "I am appointed as a Batting Consultant for the Sylhet Sixers team. My main target would be to improve the Power Hitting abilities of the players and also help them work better as a Batting unit in the tournament".
Dinesh Karthik, Abhimanyu Eshwaran and few other Indian players regularly seek tips from him.
It may be recalled here that Karthik did approach Desaii before leaving to play the Nidahas Trophy in Sri Lanka last year. And, Karthik proved to be the last over hero in the final. Desaii has been a Batting Consultant for Nepal Senior ODI team and KKR Academy.
"I arrived in Bangladesh to join the squad this week and our first BPL match will be played on Sunday (against Comilla Victorians)".
David Warner (Australia ) is the captain of Sylhet Sixers team. The team has Irman Tahir (South Africa), Andre Fletcher and Nicholas Pooran (West Indies), Mohammad Irfan and Sohail Tanvir (Pakistan), Sandeep Lamichane (Nepal) as foreign players.
Pakistan's Waqar Younis is the head coach, whereas Trevor Penny is appointed as a Fielding coach.
The tournament final will be played on Feb. 8.
