Speaking to media, the then Chief sports officer, J&K State Sports Council Rajan Sharma told that the employees of J&K State Sports Council very kind to Governor SP Malik , Advisor to Governor K Vijay Kumar and Chief Secretary of J&K for taking such a bold decision to merge apex sports body with Youth services and sports department.
He said we have extended full support to Governor and his advisor who is very keen to merge J&K State Sports Council with Youth Services and Sports to achieve its actual goal viz development of Sports in the State.
He further told that J&K State Sports Council employees warmly welcomes the decision taken by the Governor administration. Since reports are coming from last several years that J&K State Sports Council administration is not functioning properly and its own rules and regulations are violating by recognised sports bodies and blue eyed employees are getting undue promotions.
The employees of J&K State Sports Council had already approached to previous popular
governments for its merging with Youth Services and Sports as our aims and objects are same, he added .
It is pertinent to mention here that Sports Council being semi government body some vested interest persons who are running their shops illegally in it are opposing the merge decision. He requested Governor of J&K, Advisors to Governor and Chief Secretary and other concerned authorities that to develop the actual sports in the State , final call in this regard may kindly be taken and merger orders in this respect may be issued at your earliest.
He also requested Governor and Chief Secretary that during issuance merger order benefits may be given all government department employees at par with the employees of Youth Services and

He told once again requested Governor administration that some self-interest persons/organizations are misleading the authorities for their self profits who wants to use Sports Council as a platform to run their all unlawful activities as per their will and wish and have nothing to do with development Sports in the state.
It is pertinent that the Governor Administration in a major initiative aimed towards administrative reforms, has decided disband Sports Council and merge it with Department of Youth Services and Sports to ensure that developmental and other works are expedited and there is single control on majority of the ongoing sports projects.
Sources in the administration told that with a view to streamline functioning of J&K State Sports Council and Youth Services and Sports Deptt Governor Administration will avoiding multiple controls of both departments. The new concept will be put into practice very shortly as efforts in this regard have already been initiated by the Governor Administration.
The Governor Administration also observed that Sports was suffering in Jammu and Kashmir due to working of two departments with one function including State Sports Council and Youth Services and Sports Department.
Therefore, it has reportedly been decided to disband the State Sports Council and merge it with Youth Services and Sports Department to have control and responsibility of single Department to promote and encourage sports in Jammu and Kashmir in which the State was badly lacking.
“Interests of two Departments quite often clash due to which sports has suffered a lot in the State,” sources asserted and declared that the Government was planning to promote sports in a big way.
