SRINAGAR, Jan 19: Police has asked the owners of tuition and coaching centres operating from different areas in Srinagar to wind up their operations till January 26.
Subsequently, the managements decided to close the tuition and coaching centres from today till January 26.
The owners have been told that the step has been taken as a precautionary measure as part of security arrangements for the Republic Day.
The management of tuition centres have resented the move saying the students particularly those who have to appear for NEET for admission in professional colleges will lose valuable time. They asked how the tuition centres are connected with security related problems. The management described the move as unnecessary.
Giving details, the management of coaching centres said that they did not receive any formal or written order from authorities for closing their centres till January 26.
"A message was conveyed to us through concerned police officers directing us to windup our operations till January 26. How can a police officer dictate terms as he has no mandate in this regard. If they really want to shut the coaching centres, they should issue a formal order,” they said.
The coaching centre owners, while terming the decision as "dictatorial", said that everything in Kashmir is justified in the garb of security. “We do not have any issue with the police we want that directorate of school education issue a written order and give reasons thereof what prompts it to waste the precious time of students,” they said.
Officials said the step was taken as a precautionary measure in view of security arrangements for republic day. They said that two grenade attacks occurred on two consecutive days in Srinagar city.
However, some parents said that the grenade attacks did not occur because of tuition and coaching centres. "Such incidents are occurring for the last 28 years in Kashmir. By closing down the tuition and coaching centres for a week, the authorties are playing with the future of students, particularly those appearing for NEET," they said.
