NEW DELHI, Jan 22 (Agencies): India has raised a complaint against Pakistani intelligence agencies of threatening two members of its High Commission in Islamabad.
This comes days after a woman lodged a police complaint against a Pakistan High Commission official for allegedly touching her inappropriately at a market.
The Indian Express reported that the Indian High Commission in Islamabad is learned to have sent a “note verbale” to Pakistan’s Foreign Office where they have mentioned that two staffers of the Indian High Commission were “intercepted” and “threatened” by Pakistani agency personnel at the premises of high-security diplomatic enclave in Islamabad on January 15.
The note also requested the Foreign Ministry to investigate the incident and instruct the relevant agency to share the findings of the investigation with the Indian High Commission.
“The Ministry is requested to kindly investigate this incident and instruct the relevant agency to ensure that such incidents do not recur,” the note said.
In a separate note verbale, the Ministry of External Affairs lodged a 'strong protest' with Pakistan's Foreign Office over reports of a speech delivered by Fazlur Rehman Khalil, the chief of the banned Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, promoting terror against India, reported Hindustan Times.
The note also highlighted that these type of incidents pertaining to harassment of family members of the diplomats are in violation of the Vienna Convention of Diplomatic relations of 1961.
Earlier this month, a staffer of the Pakistan High Commission was accused of allegedly touching a woman inappropriately at a popular market in south Delhi, following which he was taken to the Sarojini Nagar police station on January 13. He was later let off after he "apologised", as per a senior police officer.
