MUMBAI, Jan 22: Left arm medium fast bowler Vishwa Fernando is not thinking too much on his "late inclusion" in the national squad.
The 28-year-old Vishwa Fernando is all set to leave for Australia this week. He will be replacing another pacer Nuwan Pradeep, who sustained a Grade 1 strain in his left hamstring.
The injury has occurred, while Pradeep was bowling during Sri Lanka’s warm up game played against Cricket Australia XI.
"I know my inclusion is as a replacement. But I am not thinking too much on this. I am very proud and am more confident and will give 110 % to the team", speaking exclusively over telephone from Sri Lanka, he said.
"The good news came when I was playing a match. After the match I checked my phone when the news from the cricket board had already reached". "It has always been a dream to play for the country and I feel very happy".
"My wife (Sheather Fernando) also could not resist her emotions and wished me for the inclusion in the team", he signed off.
"The team management had sent two options for the new player and Vishwa Fernando was their first choice and selectors obliged the request", a well-placed source in Colombo said to this reporter.
"Vishwa is a good player and if he gets a chance to play in the final XI, will be able to perform well", hoped his personal coach Neil Rajapeksa.
The team already has four fast bowlers – Suranga Lakmal, Lahiru Kumara, Dushmantha Chameera and Kasun Rajitha – in the squad.
