SRINAGAR, Jan 23: Kashmir Public Health Engineering Casual Labourers Union (KPHECLU) today threatened to hold a mega rally in Jammu on February 1 to press for their demands including regularization and release of pending wages.
Addressing media at Kashmir Press Club here, the casual laborers union President, Fayaz Ahmad Malik while condemning the recent circular issued by the government vis-à-vis date of birth of illiterate employees said the policy was adopted to shunt out poor employees who have rendered half of their life in serving their respective departments.
He asked all the daily wage and casual workers to be united if they want their issues to be resolved at earliest.
Malik said that every successive regime be it NC, PDP or any other political party which has ruled the state in past have miserably failed to resolve the issues of casual laborers including their regularization.
“These casual, need base and daily wage workers works in the department since 1994 who according to the state government regularization policy should have been confirmed seven years after joining the department they work in,” he added
He said the poor labourers who have been working in PHE and other departments continue to suffer following the governments lack of interest to resolve their genuine issues.
Malik said the government has even withheld wages of causal labourers thus putting them in extremely difficult situation.
He demanded that the government must resolve the long pending demands of casual laborers and daily wagers so that their families do not suffer anymore.
He said that all the daily rated, casual and need base workers of PHE department will lead a mega rally on 1st Feb from Srinagar to winter capital Jammu to seek redressal of their pending issues.
“A mega rally will be organised on February 1st in which daily wage, need base, contractual and causal labourers are expected to participate. We will also hold a sit in outside Civil Secretariat Jammu in support of our demands,” said Malik.
He appealed to the affected workers to be ready on scheduled date for March to Jammu to ensure justice is delivered to them.
