Quake jolts J&K, other parts of India, Pak

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Feb 5: A moderate intensity earthquake of magnitude 5.6 rocked Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday causing panic among the residents who ran out of their homes.
The earthquake struck at 10.17 PM and lasted several seconds as people ran out of their homes, fearing for their safety, officials said.
The epicentre of the quake was at a depth of 40 kilometres in northwestern Kashmir, 118 kilometres from Srinagar, the officials said. There were no reports of any casualties or damage due to the quake so far.
Strong tremors were felt across the Delhi NCR also after an earthquake jolted Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday night. There are no reports of casualties or loss of property so far. In Himachal Pradesh tremors were felt in Chamba and Mandi also, earlier in the afternoon and later in the evening again.
Earthquake tremors were also felt across many cities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab in Pakistan.
As per National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad confirmed that an earthquake at a magnitude of 5.6 on the Richter scale struck at around 9:47 PM and had a depth of 40km. The region identified by the monitoring centre is 104km northeast of Muzaffarabad, in Pakistan Administered Kashmir.
According to Dawn News TV, Lower Dir and its surrounding areas also reported tremors. In Pakistan Punjab, reports of tremors came from Lahore, Sialkot, and Jhelum. Islamabad residents also confirmed they felt mild to moderate tremors. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, residents of Shangla and its surrounding districts also experienced tremors and reported aftershocks as well. Tremors were felt nearly across the entire Northern region, including Malakand division and Gilgit-Baltistan.
