Uri physical trainer had committed suicide: Police

SRINAGAR, Feb 6: Police on Wednesday closed the file as a case of suicide into mysterious death of a physical trainer who was found hanging in a building at Azad-Gunj area in Uri town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
A youth, Azim Nazir, according to officials, was found hanging on December 18 last year in a building adjacent to the gym where he was working as a physical trainer for the past ten years.
The death of the Uri youth sparked massive protests from the residents of his native village prompting police to setup Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the matter.
However, a police official said the investigation has been concluded and the file closed as a case of suicide after it was established that the deceased had committed suicide following breakup with a non-local girl.
“During the course of investigation, it was established that the deceased was in relationship with a girl from Rajasthan which ended up on breakup recently,” said the spokesman.
He said the deceased could not put up with the shock and committed suicide by hanging himself in a building which lies next to the gym at Azad-Gunj locality in Uri.
Spokesman said the electronic, circumstantial, medical and forensic evidences also established that the deceased had committed suicide by hanging himself with a rope.
“The statements of witnesses who were aware of the facts and circumstances substantiated the suicide after recording their statement before the court,” he added.
Regarding injuries on eye and the ear of deceased, he said the injuries as per forensic experts were inflicted after the death most likely by rodents.
“Accordingly, the matter has been closed as a case of suicide,” said the spokesman.
