Gadkari agrees to review land compensation rates

NEW DELHI, Feb 13: Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari has assured the state government to review compensation rates for land acquired for the Jammu Ringh road project.
The assurance came in response to Governor Satya Pal Malik’s request of providing adequate compensation to farmers, whose lands were being acquired for the Jammu Ring Road project. Gadkari assured that compensation rates for land acquired would be reviewed.
Malik made this request in a high level meeting at New Delhi. Gadkari and Dr Jitendra Singh Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Officers participated in the meeting chaired by Malik in the union capital.
BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary, J&K; U.P Singh, Union Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, Nagendra Nath Sinha, Managing Director, NHIDCL; Dheeraj Gupta, Principal Resident Commissioner J&K, Commissioner (Indus) and other senior officers from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Ministry of Water Resources also participated in the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the progress of various ongoing projects of Ministry of Road Transport and Highways and Ministry of Water Resources in Jammu & Kashmir. The meeting was informed that the Rs 5850.00 Cr Ujh Multipurpose Project had already been approved by the CEC and Ministry of Water Resources. The Ministry of Water Resources was requested to get the PIB approval expeditiously so that the above mentioned project could start within this month.
Similarly the meeting discussed the status of approvals on Chenani-Sudhmahadev Road and Jammu-Akhnoor Road. It was mentioned that more than 90 percent of the land for both the projects was handed over to NHIDCL. NHIDCL assured that the work on these two roads would be taken up within this month.
The meeting also discussed various issues relating to the implementation of prestigious Jammu & Srinagar Ring Roads, Zojila and Z Morh tunnels and took decisions for their speedy implementation in the overall interest of the state.
