Life back to normal as day curfew lifted from Jammu

JAMMU, Feb 21: Life was back to normal in Jammu as the authorities Thursday fully lifted day curfew, after seven days of its imposition, from the entire city.
Though, restrictions under Section 144 CrPC remained in force to maintain law and order yet markets reopened and public transport was also back on the roads. Schools also reopened after week-long closure due to curfew and restrictions.
Curfew was, however, not lifted in one go. Jammu District Magistrate Ramesh Kumar issued four orders announcing relaxation of curfew in all areas of Jammu district from 7 am to 11 pm for 16 hours.
The district magistrate initially ordered relaxation in the curfew in the entire city from 7 am to 2 PM and later extended the relaxation period till 6 PM, again it was extended up to 9 PM. Finally, it was extended up to 11.00 PM. While 2G mobile Internet services were restored in the district last night. High mobile internet (3G/4G services) continued to remain suspended.
In the meanwhile, the IGP Jammu M K Sinha today issued advisory against rumour mongering.
“In wake of Pulwama Attack, various rumours were circulated to disrupt the peace and communal harmony. Every responsible citizen should bring whatsapp account names, Facebook ID's, Twitter handles, etc from which rumours are being spread to the notice of police for legal action. Lodge complaints on 0191-2542000 or 2542001. Complainant’s identity shall be kept secret,” IGP stated.
During relaxation period, shops and business establishments reopened across the city, while public transport also resumed in most of the routes as people came out of their homes to buy essential commodities. All wine shops and bars remained closed.
Curfew was on February 15 after violence broke out during protests amid shutdown call against the Pulwama terror attack.
In the meanwhile, Jammu Kashmir State Board of School Education (JKBOSE) revised the date sheet of Class 12th for Jammu province (summer Zone). The exams scheduled to begin from February 23 and February 26 have been postponed. According to the official notification, the examination pertaining to Higher Secondary Part-ll (Class 12th) Regular Annual Session 2019 (Summer Zone) Jammu Division, scheduled to be held on February 23 and 26, 2019 have been postponed. “The fresh dates for holding the examination of postponed papers shall be notified separately. However, rest of the papers from March 1, 2019, shall be held as per the date sheet already notified,” the notification said.
Jammu University also postponed its exams scheduled for tomorrow.
“All the Under & Post graduate level examinations, CBCS ( Minor examinations), Course work examinations of M.Phil & Ph.D to be conducted on February 22, 2019 (Friday) stand postponed due to unavoidable circumstances. Fresh date shall be notified later on. The teaching shall also remain suspended. However, the offices of the University of Jammu shall remain functional as usual on February 22, 2019,” said a notification issued by Jammu University.
In another development, Jammu police today released pictures of three unidentified men who raised anti-national slogans here on February 11 that triggered outrage in the region following the incident.
A police spokesman here said that three unidentified men who raised anti-national slogans, their pictures have released.
He said, “They have been traced but the whereabouts are being ascertained,” and added that “if anybody on identifying them have any clue about their initials can inform to the police on circulated numbers.” Protests triggered in Jammu by the college students after when some Kashmir bound stranded passengers who were demanding to be airlifted to the valley, raised anti-national slogans on February 11. The students who were on protest also alleged that apart from stranded passengers, some of the students staying in a hostel near GGM Science College also raised slogans and they should be booked and arrested.
