SRINAGAR, Mar 13: Condemning as “witch hunt” NIA summon to Mirwaiz
Umar Farooq by National Investigation Agency (NIA), Hurriyat Conference (M) today said that Mirwaiz being religious leader of high stature must not be linked
with terror funding.
Hurriyat (M) held a meeting here today which was presided over by senior leader and former chairman Prof Abdul Gani Bhat. Later Bhat and another senior leader Bilal Gani Lone addressed a press conference.
They said that the government is trying to connect two unparallel lines by linking Mirwaiz Umar Farooq with terror funding case.
Lone said that Mirwaiz who has non-violent political ideology has always advocated peaceful political settlement of the Kashmir issue.
“We express solidarity with our Chairman against whom a witch hunt has been started. Ours is a political forum having no connection with terror funding nor do we indulge in this activity in future,” said Lone, adding that Hurriyat will chalk out its strategy as per situation.
Reiterating party stand that its Chairman is not going to travel anywhere, he said if NIA wants to ask anything they should do it in a systematic manner.
He said linking terror funding with Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is like connecting two unparallel lines which he said are from each other.
“Mirwaiz besides a political leader represents state as a religious head; it is unfortunate that two unparallel lines are being connected. Let’s not take it as a political vendetta as Hurriyat has endorsed peace and dialogue not violence,” added Lone.
Bilal Lone, who is also the Chairman of Peoples Independent Movement, said that Mirwaiz never changed his approach towards peaceful and political resolution of Kashmir even when his uncle was martyred and his house was attacked.
“Mirwaiz remained committed towards the peaceful resolution of Kashmir and went ahead with his ideology even after his uncle was assassinated, his house vandalized and Islamia School was torched,” said he.
He also said that Mirwaiz shared dialogue table once in 2004 and then again in 2005 and his approach is same as it was in 2005.
