Early assembly polls must to end problems of people: Mehbooba

SRINAGAR, Mar 14: Batting for early elections in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti today said early elections are must to end the problems people of Jammu and Kashmir face at the moment.
Reacting on Election Commission of India (ECI) Special Observers visit to Kashmir, Mehbooba said that Assembly election should be held at earliest so that the people who continue to suffer in absence of a popular government heaves a sigh of relief.
“PDP’s stand on elections is clear. We reiterate that elections should be conducted at earliest as people continue to suffer; fresh arrest spree has been started in Kashmir. Where will people go to seek redressal of their problems under such circumstances,” she added.
On the opening of Kartarpur corridor she said the step which was taken amid tensions between India and Pakistan is appreciable.
The former Chief Minister said that people of Jammu and Kashmir have been the worst sufferers of bitter relations between the two neighbouring nations.
“It is people of Jammu and Kashmir who continue to bear the brunt of bitterness between India and Pakistan. Opening of Kartarpur Corridor amid tensions between the two neighboring nations is appreciable,” Mehbooba added.
She also demanded Uri and Rawalakot roads to be thrown open for public like that of Kartarpur corridor.
