MUMBAI, Mar 14 Sri Lanka cricket team will have a new Head Coach for the three T-20i against South Africa, it is reliably learnt here.
According to the highly placed sources in Sri Lanka, Chandika Hathurusinghe will be asked to return home after the ODI series is over on Saturday and Steve Rixon, the team fielding coach will take over for the last leg (T-20i) of the ongoing tour.
Rixon has the experience of coaching Australian, New Zealand and Pakistani players.
The sad news to Hathu will be conveyed by the CEO Ashley De Silva, who flew to South Africa on Thursday night.
It could not be confirmed whether the CEO's South Africa trip was pre-decided or the sudden decision was taken after team's poor show in the recent ODI matches. The team has so far lost all the four ODIs' and Ashely de Silva is set to return home on 18th March.
Hathu's future role is undecided at present. The final decision whether he would be a coach for the World Cup team will be decided once his meeting with the top officials of the Sri Lanka Cricket is held in Colombo.
Indications are that Rixon may be the World Cup coach as a stop-gap arrangement.
