Urges to hold assembly polls in J&K in June-July

JAMMU, Mar 15: A delegation of Janta Dal United JD (U) led by its state president, GM Shaheen called on ‘special observers’ appointed by Election Commission of India (ECI) in Srinagar and put forth their issues and demands in front of them related to recent announcement of Parliament polls including Assembly elections in J&K, which are still unannounced.
JD (U) leadership held wide ranging discussions with the ECI delegation, which is presently in Srinagar to ‘assess the situation for the conduct of polls’.
Meanwhile, ECI team gave a patient hearing to the JD (U) leadership pertaining to their views and suggestions to further improve things on ground to ensure larger participation of voters and to augment facilities at the Polling stations across the State.
Seeking cooperation from Shaheen and other political parties to ensure complete transparency in the electoral process, the ECI team urged JDU delegation to abide by the guidelines of the Election Commission with regard to the implementation of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) which has been enforced with the announcement of parliamentary elections.
The ECI team also advised them to sensitize their workers, polling agents about the scope and extent of MCC and cooperate fully in strict adherence of the same.
ECI team assured the JD (U) leadership of all necessary assistance related to the election process by the State Election Department and asked them to bring any difficulty to his notice.
