Mirwaiz does not appear before NIA in Delhi

Wants investigation in Srinagar
SRINAGAR, March 18: Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M), and chief cleric of Kashmir, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today again refused to appear before NIA office in New Delhi for questioning in alleged funding case.
Mirwaiz according to spokesman in his fresh reply to NIA notice has asked the probe agency to change the venue for investigation from Delhi to Srinagar following serious apprehensions in traveling to National Capital.
The religious leader who refused to turn up before the investigators at New Delhi past week citing security reasons received fresh notice from NIA to appear in person at its office in New Delhi today for questioning.
Mirwaiz said he won’t hesitate to cooperate in investigation provided the venue is shifted from New Delhi to Srinagar.
The spokesman said that Mirwaiz received NIA notice on March 15 and reiterated that he is willing to cooperate with investigators; however he could not travel to New Delhi following serious apprehensions.
Mirwaiz has reiterated that he is willing to cooperate in the matter but has asked for the venue for examination to be shifted from Delhi to Srinagar as the concerns and apprehensions regarding travel to Delhi, expressed by him through his counsel in the earlier response dated 10 .3.2019 continue to remain the same, the spokesman added.
“On several occasions earlier many persons have been examined by the Agency at Humhama Budgam while conducting investigation. He sees no reason why his client cannot be examined in similar manner,” the spokesman quoted the response sent through Adv Aijaz Dhar.
Earlier, Mirwaiz cited security reasons and probable disturbance in the valley for obvious reasons in a written response through his counsel, Adv Aijaz Dhar asked the probe agency to carryout investigation in Srinagar or infallible security be provided to him to New Delhi in case of urgency.
“Under the prevailing conditions of hostility wherein there is a threat to the personal safety of my client it becomes unwise for him (Mirwaiz) to travel to New Delhi. If the NIA wants to examine Mirwaiz Umar Farooq they can do it in Srinagar as well,” reads the letter, adding that he is willing to cooperate as he (Mirwaiz) has nothing to hide.
