Mirwaiz quizzed by NIA for 13 hours on 2nd day

SRINAGAR, Apr 9: Chairman Huriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq who was summoned by National Investigation Agency (NIA) in alleged funding case was quizzed by the investigators on second straight day today at NIA headquarters in New Delhi.
Mirwiaz after first round of investigation on Monday again appeared before the investigators for questioning this morning.
Mirwaiz who was accompanied by his counsel Advocate Aijaz Dhar according to sources reached NIA headquarters at 8am in the morning amid tight security.
Sources further said that top brass of NIA investigated the chief cleric of Kashmir vis-à-vis his political and religious activities.
They said the investigators asked him questions about his political activities besides his work as Mirwaiz and head of Awami Action Committee (AAC).
“Mirwaiz reached at NIA headquarters at 8am and his questioning started as soon as he reached there. He was quizzed for around thirteen hours without break,” sources added.
Pertinently Mirwaiz Umar Farooq reached New Delhi on Monday after NIA issued third summon to him to appear before the investigators in person for questioning in alleged funding case.
Senior party leaders including Bilal Gani Lone, Masroor Abbas Ansari and Professor Abdul Gani Bhat besides his counsel accompanied Mirwaiz to Delhi on Monday.
The chief clerk citing security reasons earlier refused to travel to Delhi for questioning and shot a reply to NIA to change venue from New Delhi to Srinagar.
He also said that he will cooperate with investigators as he has nothing to hide provided the venue is changed from Delhi to Srinagar.
NIA which probes alleged terror funding in Kashmir however assured Mirwaiz that his security concerns will be properly take care of and will be provided with adequate security.
