Magistrates highway travel pass on palm

ANANTNAG, Apr 13: The authorities on Saturday exonerated the officer who had issued a travel pass to a commuter on national highway by putting the seal and stamp on his palm after he apologised for the same.
Naib Tehsildar Khiram, Ghulam Mohiudin who had been deleted for magisterial duty near Tulkhan crossing on NHW had on Wednesday issued a travel permission to a commuter by stamping his palm.
The stamped palm of the commuter later went viral on social media triggering outrage from social media users. Even the former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti expressed surprise and anger over permission issued by the magistrates on palms of commuters for using highway.
Under fire from all the quarters, the district administration Anantnag on Friday issued a showcase notice to the magistrate asking him to explain his position within two days.
"It has come to our notice that you are issuing travel passes to commuters on NHW which is against the rules. You are asked to clear your position as to why action under law can be taken against you," the show cause notice issued to the magistrate read.
However, official sources said, the magistrate on Friday not only replied to the showcause in written but also personally appeared before the top officers of the district administration and apologised for issuing the permission.
Additional deputy commissioner, Anantnag Parvez Sajad said that the Naib Tehsildar not only appeared personally but replied to the showcause notice before the given time.
"In both the written reply and verbally the Naib Tehsildar explained that he had issued a permission on palm after a person approached him and begged that his mother was critically ill. He replied that he had done it out of good faith and not with any bad intention," ADC said.
After his reply, he said, they have exonerated the NT in the case.
