Urges Governor to restore ‘Reservation in Promotion Order’

JAMMU, Apr 14: The Jammu University SC/ST Employees Association today to mark the 128th birth anniversary of Baba Saheb Dr B.R.Ambedkar, an Indian jurist, politician, philosopher, anthropologist, historian, economist and principal architect of the Constitution of India at Sheikh Nagar Bahu Fort here.
The function was headed by the Association President RL Kaith and attended by a large number of SC/STs.
Association members while eulogizing the services of Baba Saheb expressed deep concern over non-compliance of UGC instructions by the University. They stated that since 2008, the University Grants Commission (UGC) has, several times, given instructions to the University to provide membership to SCs & STs in the competent bodies like University Council, Syndicate, Academic Council, Establishment Committee, etc. but, till date, no step has been taken by it to comply with the instructions.
Association General Secretary Surjeet Singh.Heer said that, till date, no action has been taken on their Association’s prime demands including constitution of a Standing Committee for SCs & STs (as per the UGC instructions) which was agreed to in principle by the JU Registrar Dr Minakshi Kilam in their two meetings held in her office chambers.
Heer further said that even the accommodation urged for establishing the office of their Association (which is the only Govt. recognized body in the University) has been denied whereas some associations/unions which have not been even recognised by the University’s Competent Body have their offices on the campus and membership in several committees. Even if some interim relief order is issued in case a SC/ST by the Court that too is not complied with, added Heer.
This is height of injustice to SC/STs, said the gathering. The Association strongly urged the State Governor Satya Pal Malik to have the much awaited ‘Reservation in Promotion Order’ issued by the General Department of State Government.
Those who participated in the function included Milkhi Ram Malhotra, Bikram Magotra, Manzoor Mohd Malik, Ashok Kumar Suntal, S.K.Shavotra, Thoru Ram Mangloo, Ramesh Dalotra, Anil Shavotra and Anil Kumar.
