3 houses, 7 shops gutted in Kishtwar blaze

KISHTWAR, Apr 20: Three houses and seven shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Dadpeth area, about 24 kilometers away from Kishtwar, on the intervening night of April 19 and 20.
However there was no report of any loss of life, officials said Saturday.
Locals stated that the fire broke out at around 1.30 AM in one of the structures at Dadpeth village late Friday night and immediately engulfed the nearby buildings. Fire and Emergency Services personnel came to know about incident at around 2 AM.
“They came immediately yet with a single vehicle which was available to them. With the help of water pump the water was lifted from river Chenab for about 2 hours continuously. Finally the fire and emergency services personnel managed to put off the blaze after several hours of operation,” the locals said. The cause of the fire was not known immediately.
Seven shops including garment store, ration depot and a few provision stores were completely gutted which were owned by the locals.
This morning, Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Angrez Singh Rana visited the affected village and handed over an immediate relief of Rs 5,000, blankets, kitchen kit, bucket and solar lights to each of the affected families, out of Red Cross fund. The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by Tehsildar Chatroo, Prevaiz Ahmed, TSO Mugalmadan Tariq Rasool Munshi, General Secretary Red Cross Kishtwar, Asgar Ali Sheikh (Bitta Sheikh), Sarpanches. Besides concerned officers, locals and family members of affected families were present there.
During the visit the DC directed the concerned officials to ensure proper and timely compensation to the fire victims whose property got damaged in the fire incident. He also directed Tehsildar Chatroo to submit detailed report at an earliest so that immediate compensation could be provided to the fire victims. While interacting with fire affected families DC assured them that every possible help would be provided by the government.
Rana further instructed the people to dump their dry fodder/hay away from their houses to avoid any untoward fire incident in future.
