Injured PDP activist succumbs

ANANTNAG, May 20: 68 year old People's Democratic Party (PDP) activist who was shot at and critically wounded by the gunmen Sunday evening succumbed to injuries on Monday.
A group of unidentified gunmen at around 9.00 PM on Saturday had barged into the house of Mohammad Jamal Bhat in Zangalpora village of Kulgam and fired at him multiple times.
Bhat, a PDP worker suffered critical wounds after being hit by bullets in abdomen and shoulder. He was immediately taken to nearby healthcare facility where from doctors had referred him to Srinagar hospital on the basis of severity of his wounds.
Bhat, however, lost the battle for life Monday morning. He was later brought to his native village for burial. A number of people including his neighbours and relatives participated in the last rites of Bhat.
Bhat, according to local sources, despite grim situation in the area was campaigning for Mehbooba Mufti during the recently concluded LS polls.
Pertinently Bhat is the second DPD worker to have been shot dead by suspected militants in southern Kashmir after the conclusion of polls, the results of which will be declared on May 23.
