Violation of Solid Waste Management rules

JAMMU, May 21: Chairman, NGT State Level Committee (SLC) Justice (retired) Janak Raj Korwal, while taking suo-moto cognizance of news reports about violation of “solid waste management” thus endangering health and hygiene of people in Katra township of district Reasi, Tuesday called reports from from the Deputy Commissioner Reasi and Chief Executive Officer, Shree Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in this regard.
Referring to news reports about worsening environmental scenario due to solid waste dumps in the holy township of Katra' resulting into contamination of the water o\' the Jhajjar rivulet, which is main source of drinking water for a huge population on its banks and peripheral areas, Justice Kotwal sought status report in terms of Rule 12 o\~ SWM Rules and the order dated 16. 01. 2019 passed by the National Green Tribunal in O.A. No. 606/2018 the Deputy Commissioner. Reasi and SMVDSB CEO in regard to the implementation of SWM Rules in district Reasi in general and Katra township in particular.
“Report should reach to this office on or before June 8, 2019, when the matter shall come up for further consideration,” he ordered..
