SRINAGAR, July 9: Former bureaucrat turned politician, Dr Shah Faesal and former legislator, Er Rashid led Peoples United Forum (PUF) today began a three day sit-in outside Civil Secretariat here to press for the much needed tunnel for the people of Karnah and Gurez.
It may be in place to mention that Karnah and Gurez residents on many occasions in the past staged demonstrations in Srinagar to get their issues addressed at the earliest. The far flung area is further cut off from rest of Kashmir they face in the aftermath as a consequence of bad weather conditions.
Joined by scores of PUF supporters, PUF leader and President Awami Ithaid Party (AIP) who has represented Langate assembly constituency sat on three day dharna outside civil secretariat to get long pending demand to get formal approval of the tunnel for Karnah and Gurez residents done.
On the occasion, Rashid took the administration head on for failing to notice the issues the residents of mountainous areas confront on daily basis saying Karnah and Gurez residents have equal rights like that of others to life of honour and dignity.
He said that the government, without procrastinating over the issue anymore, should give formal consent to the tunnel for the residents of Karnah and Gurez.
“These areas are cutoff and have been craving for official attention, the residents of Karnah and Gurez needs tunnel and not Bofors tanks and guns. How long they suffer. It’s unfortunate that on one hand border residents are praised and their innocence uses for national interests while on the other New Delhi has miserably failed has failed to win their hearts,” said Er Rashid.
He said the people living on the other side of LoC have better infrastructure, however those who live on this side lives a dejected life in absence of better roads and other facilities.
Rashid asked the government to wake up to the pitiable condition of Karnah and Gurez residents whom he said lives on the razor edge and give formal consent to much needed tunnel without any further delay.
