Woman killed in Ambphalla mishap

JAMMU, July 11: Two siblings hailing from Chakrohi in Suchetgarh of Jammu district, and their wives were among five persons killed when the car they were travelling in collided with an SUV near Bhogpur village of Jalandhar in Punjab Thursday morning.
The tragic mishap occurred at around 8 AM when former Zonal Education Officer, his brother and their wives were on their way to Jalandhar in Punjab. All the five occupants, including driver of the ill-fated car, died on the spot, police said. The deceased, all in the age group of 55-60, were identified as Dev Raj ex ZEO, his brother Darshan Lal and their wives Lajwanti and Raj Kumari.
Police said that the accident took place when the car driver lost control over the vehicle, which jumped the median strip, crossed over to the other side and then rammed into another vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
Three occupants of the SUV also suffered injuries in the accident, they said. The impact of the collision was such that the bodies of the car occupants got stuck in the mangled vehicle and a lot of effort was made to extricate them.
In the meanwhile, a woman was killed while another injured when they were hit by a school bus today at Ambphalla in Jammu,
Police said that a mini bus ferrying school children, coming from Janipura, when reached near Mian Dido Chowk, the driver lost its control and the vehicle hit the wall of a shop.
Two women standing outside the shop suffered injuries and were rushed to the hospital where one of them identified as Raj Rani (42), wife of Rattan Lal, Ward Number 13, was declared as brought dead.
Another woman namely Sweety (45), wife of Mohan, Ward Number 5, Akhnoor was under treatment.
The driver escaped from the spot while a case was registered and investigation started.
