Jammu peaceful, restrictions continue

JAMMU, Aug 6: Jammu remained totally peaceful on Tuesday though security cover and restrictions remained in place for the second consecutive day.
Markets remained shut and public transport off the roads while class work in schools, colleges and University of Jammu also remained suspended today also. Internet shut down also continued
As per officials, status-quo will persist tomorrow with prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC in place.
University of Jammu had postponed all UG and PG examinations and Admission process to be held today. It also announced to postpone all examinations slated for tomorrow. “The M.Phil/Ph.D Entrance Examination scheduled to be held on August 7, 2019 stand postponed. Fresh dates for holding examinations shall be notified later on,” reads the order issued by Dr Vinay Thusoo, Official Spokesperson, University of Jammu.
In the meanwhile, due to restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir, the written exam of JKSSB for the post of Junior Assistant (Migrants) under notification 04 of 2017, which is scheduled to be held on August 7, 2019 was also postponed. “Next date of exam shall be notified shortly on the official website of JKSSB,” officials said.
Undeclared curfew and internet shutdown in Bhaderwah town of Chenab valley continued in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts also. Regional parties in Jammu and Kashmir besides religious leaders from Chenab Valley called decision to abrogate Article 370 as “an aggression against the people.” In Bhaderwah, Doda , Kishtwar and other parts of the Chenab Valley, security personnel were patrolling on roads to enforce restrictions strictly.
Meanwhile president Anjuman Islamia Bhadderwah Khairat Hussain Frash criticized BJP led NDA government for revoking the Article 370 and 35 A and described it as the “murder of democracy.”
Situation was no more different in Poonch, Mendhar as well. However, in Mendhar, people suffered on account of shortage of essentials and frequent power curtailment amid restrictions.
In Jammu region, night curfew was imposed in Kishtwar, Banihal and Rajouri areas and restrictions under Section 144 CrPc were imposed in all the districts of Jammu region on Monday.
“The situation is totally peaceful. There were no reports of any untoward incident from anywhere. Night curfew was imposed and restriction are in place,” Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar A S Rana said. Deputy Commissioner Doda D S Dattatray said the situation remained peaceful in Doda and appealed to people to maintain peace and tranquility.
Yesterday, the authorities had convened a meeting with prominent citizens of both communities in Jammu to maintain peace in Jammu city.
Advisors Vijay Kumar, Incharge Home, Farooq Khan and K Skandan, Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mukesh Singh, Divisional Commissioner, Sanjeev Verma and other senior officers of civil and police administration besides representatives of the two communities had attended the meeting held at the Police Control Room (PCR).
