Workshop on Curriculum reforms concludes at JU

JAMMU, Aug 23: Five days workshop on “Curriculum Reforms” organized by Department of Zoology, University of Jammu under RUSA scheme (Phase II) from August 19 to 23on the theme updating and restructuring course curriculum for Master Degree Programme in Zoology concluded here to day.
Prof. Seema Langer, Head of the Department presented the opening remarks and welcomed the resource persons.
The workshop started by reviewing the existing syllabi of Post Graduate programme in Zoology. On first day of the workshop, Prof S.K Tank from Veer Narmad South Gujarat University and Dr. Kalpana Pai from Sabitribhai Phule University, Pune, were the resource persons. They critically analyzed the course contents and gave their valuable suggestions. They stressed upon the development of competency based curriculum which can be implemented using different educational resources which will enhance and allow the students to learn at their own pace in a flexible way. On second day of the workshop Dr. Anupam Kour from the Department of Human Genetics, GNDU along with Dr. Satwinder Kour from Department of Zoology, GNDU deliberated on the curriculum development. They shared their experience and gave suggestions on curriculum development and also suggested modifications and introduction of new experimental exercises in laboratory courses. They also stressed upon the introduction of field visits to study the natural aspects of Zoology to inculcate the scientific temperament and attitude among students. They also emphasized on the introduction of skill based courses as a prerequisite for exploring the entrepreneurship options for students after completion of post graduation
On the third day of the workshop Prof. Jagbir Singh Kirti, Department of Zoology & Env. Sciences, Punjabi University, Patiala and Prof. R. Jindal Department of Zoology, Punjab University, Chandigarh along with the entire faculty of the department reviewed the course curricula and gave suggestions regarding the introduction of new courses that will help the students to acquire employable skills. The deliberations on revision and modification of syllabi continued for the fourth day with appreciable outcomes. On the concluding day, Prof. D.R. Thakur, HP University concluded by finalizing the various inputs and suggestions by the experts that will be incorporated in the reformed syllabi.A formal vote of thanks was presented by Prof Seema Langer.
Among others Prof. Roopma Gandotra, Dean Life Sciences, Dr. Parvinder Kumar, Dr. Arti Sharma, Dr. Sarbjeet Kour and Dr. Rakesh Kumar were also on the occasion.
