NEW DELHI, Oct 7 (Agencies): Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday said that reports on the situation in Kashmir was "heartbreaking" as it was creating trouble for the common people but the "bhakts" do not care.
He slammed the Central government over Kashmir and said that reports of communication blackout in the Valley was affecting India's image abroad.
In a tweet, Shashi Tharoor said, "More heartbreaking news. But it leaves bhakts unmoved. So let's reframe the issue: Does our government understand how much damage such reports are doing to India abroad? Can it seriously assert that our international image has improved under their tenure?"
Along with the tweet, Shashi Tharoor had attached a New York Times report which shared stories of the common people and the troubles they are facing due to communication lockdown in Kashmir.
The communication blackout imposed after the abrogation of Article 370 has entered third month. With no mobiles and internet services, it is the worst communications lockdown the Valley has seen in decades. And it has started to take a toll of the Valley's economy.
The government announced the abrogation of Article 370 in the Parliament on August 5. The Centre also announced that Jammu and Kashmir state would be divided into two Union Territories - Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The Valley was put under complete lockdown before the announcement. While the restrictions have been eased out since then, but the crisis continues and it has entered into the third month. Uncertainty still looms large.
