Day 65: Life remains paralysed in Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Oct 8: Life continued to remain paralysed across Kashmir including summer capital Srinagar as markets were closed and transport off the roads amid shutdown and communication blackout in on day 65 today.
Barring ten police station areas of Kashmir, state administration clamed to lifted restrictions from everywhere, however the continuous shutdown though unprompted has thrown normal life out of gear in restive valley.
While shops and other business establishments remained closed in entire Kashmir, public transport was off the roads and attendance of employees in government offices and educational institutions was recorded nominal.
Thin movement of private vehicles and auto-rickshaws could be seen on roads amid presence of roadside vendors selling fruits, vegetables and used clothes at few places in civil line area of the city.
Schools upto the higher secondary school level which were declared open by the state administration recently also remained closed across Kashmir.
Communication system which was snapped on the August 4 midnight hours ahead of the centers decision to repeal special status of Jammu and Kashmir remained suspended on 65th consecutive day today.
Authorities snapped all modes of communication including landline phones, mobile service, pocket internet and broadband across Jammu and Kashmir on August 4. Landline service was restored in phased manner in Kashmir valley later; however mobile calling and internet service is yet to be restored.
Articles 370 and 35A were repealed and Jammu And Kashmir was bifurcated into two union territories on August 5. Stringent curfew like restrictions were imposed in the state after Centre’s major decision.
Although the authorities have removed barricades from roads in civil line and uptown areas, some interiors in old city are yet to be free from barricade while roads are still dotted with police and paramilitary CRPF on roads to maintain law and order.
