JAMMU, Oct 14: India and Pakistan traded fire for the second consecutive day along the International Border when the latter resorted to unprovoked fire from small arms to target Border Out Posts (BOPs) and villages in Chadwal belt of Hiranagar sector of Kathua district on Monday.
Officials said that Pakistani Rangers opened fire on BoPs and villages in Chadwal belt of Hiranagar sector. Border Security Force (BSF) retaliated in equal measure, however, there was no damage to any property in the ceasefire violations that took place overnight, they said.
On Sunday also, Pakistan had violated the ceasefire at the international border in Hiranagar sector of Kathua besides shelling forward border posts and villages on the Line of Control in Mankote sector in Poonch.
In Baramulla sector, however, on jawan was killed in cross border firing late Sunday evening. Pakistan security forces from the past few weeks have been resorting to unprovoked firing and shelling along the Line of Control and International Border. They have also been targetting civilian areas along the border.
The ceasefire violations and unprovoked firing have seen a spike ever since the Centre repealed special provisions of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir in August this year, as per Army sources.
