SRINAGAR, Oct 19: Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) today raided the residence of Mushtaq Ahmad, former chairman J&K Bank, at Gulbarg Colony here in connection with a case pertaining to corruption and illegal appointments during his tenure in the bank.
Some months back ACB had conducted similar raids on the office and residence of the then chairman Parvez Ahmad Nengroo, who was simultaneously sacked.
Mushtaq Ahmed was the chairman of the bank when National Conference leader Omar Abdullah was the chief minister. He continued as chairman even when Mufti Mohammad Sayeed became the chief minister. Later Parvez replaced Sheikh as bank chairman.
After the fall of Mehbooba Mufti headed PDP-BJP coalition government, the governor’s administration tightened its noose around the J&K Bank administration. Parvez was sacked on alleged corruption and illegal appointment charges. His office and residence raided several times.
Even ACB issued a notice to former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti in connection with the alleged illegal appointment case. Mehbooba at that time alleged that it was an attempt to defame her and silence her since she was raising her voice against centre’s move to scrap the special status of J&K.
Mehbooba is under detention in a guest house converted into sub jail here after the revocation of articles 370 and 35A and division of J&K state into two union territories on August 5.
Reports said the sleuths of ACB today reached Gulbarag Colony and raided the residence of Sheikh Mushtaq. The house was thoroughly searched and some documents and some other material seized.
