Cold grips Kashmir again

SRINAGAR, Nov 2: Kashmir is again under the grip of cold wave following fresh light snowfall in upper reaches and light rains in plain areas.
Reports said that the upper reaches of Gulmarg, Pahalgam, Yousmarg and Sonamarg experienced light snowfall today. Srinagar, its adjoining areas and other plain areas too had light rainfall.
Amid cloudy sky and strong winds, the mercury level dropped down in Valley. Because of the cold the people were forced to wear warm clothes and use heaters and kangris.
Cold made its presence felt last month with early snowfall in upper reaches and rain in plain areas. However, later the weather conditions improved with sunny days. However, the temperature dropped yesterday morning but the sunshine raised the mercury level in afternoon. But it was cloudy since this morning with reports of light snowfall in upper reaches and light rain in plain areas.
According to the weatherman, rain or snow may occur at several places for some days.
Despite the bad weather, the Srinagar-Jammu highway and Mughal Road and Srinagar-Ladakh highway are open.
