4 killed, 6 injured in Kishtwar accident

JAMMU, Nov 13: A day after sixteen people were killed in Khellani road accident on Batote-Kishtwar National Highway four passengers were killed and six injured on Wednesday when a van plunged into a gorge in Kishtwar district of Jammu.
Police here said the van was ferrying passengers from Kishtwar to Sarthal when the incident took place at Mandir Morh this afternoon.
“Four people died on the spot and six suffered injuries,” they said, adding that the injured have been rushed to the district hospital.
According to police, four persons died and six others were injured when a vehicle bearing no JK 17- 6479 boarded with passengers met with an accident on way from Palmar to Sarthal.
Four people were killed and five others injured when a vehicle skidded off the road and rolled down into a deep gorge in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on Wednesday, officials said. Accident took place when the vehicle, carrying pilgrims from Palmar to the Sarthal temple, fell into the gorge after the driver lost control over it, they said.
Police and locals rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to a district hospital in Kishtwar, where doctors declared four of them brought dead, the officials said. Three critically injured people were shifted to the Government Medical College here through a chopper for specialised treatment.
“After receiving the information, the district administration, Kishtwar provided immediate relief to the tune of Rs 10 thousand each to the families of deceased and 5 thousand each to injured out of District Red Cross Fund,” police said.
The DC Kishtwar Angrez Singh Rana informed that all the injured were shifted to District Hospital Kishtwar for necessary treatment. From Kishtwar hospital, three critically injured were shifted to Government Medical College, Jammu, two by chopper and one by ambulance for specialized treatment. He directed the health authorities to take good care of the injured persons.
District administration also provided immediate relief to the next of the Kin of deceased persons and those injured in a road mishap here at Sarthal.
This is the second such incident in 24 hours as 16 people, including five women and three children, were killed on Tuesday when a passenger vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Doda district.
Former Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who arrived here this morning, also expressed concern over rising cases of road accidents in erstwhile Doda district.
