SRINAGAR, Nov 14: At least five persons were injured, one of them critically, when Pakistani troops violated ceasefire and resorted to indiscriminate shelling and firing at the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector in the frontier district of Kupwara, official sources said on Thursday.
They said Pak troops fired mortar shells and resorted to unprovoked firing from across the border at LoC in Tangdhar sector, targeting forward military posts and civilian areas.
Indian troops retaliated and hit Pak troops’bunkers, they said, adding the damage suffered across the LoC was not immediately clear.
Five persons were injured in the Pak shelling and firing, they said, adding the injured were shifted to Tangdhar hospital. “One of the critically wounded was later referred to Srinagar,” they added.
Pak troops have been violating 2003 ceasefire more frequently in Baramulla and Kupwara districts after August 5, when centre scrapped Article 370 and 35A, besides divided the state into two Union Territories.
Sources said Pak troops are violating ceasefire to provide cover to militants waiting in launch pads at LoC to infiltrate into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK).
