Massive CASO underway after troops foil infiltration bid at LoC

SRINAGAR, Nov 15: Despite snowfall and other odds, a massive cordon and search operation (CASO) was going on in the woods in Naugam sector in the frontier district of Kupwara, where a group of militants had made infiltration attempt on Thursday.
Official sources said that an encounter ensued near the Line of Control (LoC) after alert troops foiled an infiltration bid from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) in the frontier district of Kupwara on Thursday.
They said troops guarding the LoC noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side at Peer-ki-Gali post in Naugam sector in Kupwara. However, when challenged militants resorted to indiscriminate firing, they said adding fire was returned ensuing in an encounter.
Despite snow and other weather odds, additional troops were rushed from different direction towards the area to foil any attempt by militants to escape.
There are two to three militants in the area and CASO was going on when the reports last came in, they said.
