Search operation at Marha continues

POONCH, Nov 19: Security forces on Tuesday seized twelve Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) (including a cylinder fitted with IED) and a wireless set from a militant hideout in forest area of Surankote tehsil of Poonch district
According to official sources, the seizure was made during a search operation that was launched on Sunday following information from villagers about the movement of suspicious people in Sangla forest area in Surankote.
“Security forces Tuesday busted a hideout and recovered arms and ammunition in forest area of Surankote tehsil of Poonch district. As the suspected movement of few armed unknown persons was noticed in Marha area of Surankote tehsil in Poonch district, 16 RR, 38 RR and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Poonch police launched a search operation in the area. Security forces recovered 11 IEDs, 1 Chinese Motorola set, wire and a cylinder fitted with IED in a natural cave in Sangla forest area of Poonch district,” official sources said.
Seizure was from an abandoned hideout in the forest, the officials said and added that no one was arrested so far. “No suspected militant was intercepted till now. The operation is still going on,” the officials said.
SSP Poonch Ramesh Kumar Angral said, “On Sunday, we launched search operation in Marha, Sangla and other forest area of Pir Panchal range. During this search operation, we recovered a big haul of arms and ammunition including 12 IEDs and a bag in a natural cave hidden under a cover.” “We destroyed rusted IED. An FIR in this connection has been registered but no arrest has been made so far,” he added.
In the meanwhile, a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was detected on Jammu-Poonch highway this morning. The IED was found near Rajouri. A bomb disposal team was rushed to the spot and the security forces cordoned off the area. The Jammu-Poonch highway remained blocked in Rajouri after the suspected IED was spotted.
