SRINAGAR, Dec 1: Life was affected in a number of parts in Kashmir for the 119th consecutive day today due to a spontaneous shutdown since August 5 when articles 370 and 35 A were abrogated and J&K state bifurcated into two union territories. However, in rest of Valley, shops were open either for full day or half day.
The Sunday Market in Srinagar witnessed a huge rush of vendors and customers today. From TRC Crossing to Lal Chowk the vendors had set up stalls on the footpaths and part of Residency Road. Occupying of the road by the vendors had made the vehicular traffic movement difficult. This led to frequent traffic jamming in Lal Chowk and Residency Road.
Shops and other business establishments were open at Lal Chowk and other adjoining areas till afternoon.
Private transport was plying on roads as usual. However, the public transport plied partially. Rail service from Baramulla to Banhial operated normally.
However, internet and pre-paid mobile phone services continued to remain suspended for 119th consecutive day today. Phone services including land line and mobile and internet was snapped on August 5. After several weeks the landline phones were restored. Later post paid phones were also restored but there is no word yet officially about the restoration of internet and pre-paid mobile phones.
