KT NEWS SERVICE. Dated: 1/14/2020 10:12:29 PM
SRINAGAR, Jan 13: Train service was suspended on Monday in Kashmir valley following heavy snowfall since early this morning.
Tracks are under one to two feet of snow, forcing suspension of all train runs in the Kashmir valley, a railway official told media this morning.
He said therefore, no train will chug on Srinagar-Budgam-Baramulla in north Kashmir, where more than one foot of snow had accumulated on tracks. “Similarly, train service will remain suspended on Budgam-Srinagar-Anantnag-Qazigund in south Kashmir and Banihal in Jammu region,” he added.
He said train service will be resumed once snow stops and tracks are cleared.
Train service has become very popular in the valley as it is cheap, fast and safe against other mode of transport available. After August 5, when centre scrapped Article 370 and 35A besides divided the state into two Union Territories (UTs), train service remained suspended for more than three months for security reasons.
