Tangmarg-Gulmarg Road closed due to snowfall

SRINAGAR, Jan 14: The world famous ski resort of Gulmarg was cut off due to several feet of fresh snowfall during the past 36 hours.
The Tangmarg-Gulmarg has been closed due to fresh snowfall, Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla Dr G N Itoo said on Tuesday.
However, he said, snow clearance operation has been launched to reopen the road. “Once the road reopens, drivers are requested to drive slowly with chain tied with tyres to avoid accident,” he said.
Dr Itoo said the snow clearance operation continued throughout the night. Snow on majority main roads have been cleared, he said, adding operation to remove snow from inner roads has been started. “Baramulla received four to five feet of fresh snowfall,” he said.
He said two water supply schemes were also affected at Chandoosa and Gulmarg. “Teams have been rushed to restore water supply from both the plants,” he said.
He said several cowsheds and shops were damaged due to snowfall in the district.
He said enough stock of essentials, including petrol, diesel, LPG cylinders and rice was available in the district.
