Selling Your Soul to the Devil!

There are many who sell their soul, their thoughts, their honesty, their beliefs in exchange for a favour, which reminds me of the legendary Dr Faust who in Goethe's classic, sold his soul to the devil: Faust is bored and depressed with his life as a scholar. After an attempt to take his own life, he calls on the Devil for further knowledge and magic powers with which to indulge all the pleasure and knowledge of the world. In response, the Devil's makes a bargain with Faust: He will serve Faust with his magic powers for a set number of years, but at the end of the term, the Devil will claim Faust's soul, and Faust will be eternally enslaved.
Sounds terrible isn't it? But many of us do the same: I have seen good straightforward, honest men and women suddenly supporting a dishonest fellow, and find myself startled before I find that a school admission done by the dishonest fellow had done the trick. A little later after redevelopment, he finds that he has been cheated off a bigger flat, "How did this happen?" I ask.
"He was so enamoured by the school admission, that he was blinded to everything else that man did!" says his distraught wife.
Or it could be the famous casting couch, not necessarily a bedroom scene but giving in to mild flirting and other favours for a promotion.
Beware of those who expect your soul for a favour done!
Let there be gratitude but not a 'selling of your soul!'
How do you not sell your soul?
By not accepting favours from those who expect you to do so, and like the devil, there are legions who want to buy your soul!
Sometimes you have one devil who buys many souls and with that controls many irregularities and cover ups. I see this often in housing societies, where one influential person, gives jobs to many in his complex and finally gets away with a host of illegal allowances!
You have two options, either, not accepting a favour or making it clear at the beginning that your soul is not for sale, that you will be grateful, but will not compromise on the right and the wrong!
That's a toughie if ever there is one, but by doing so you will gain the respect ultimately of everyone.
I would say the same of the one who does the favour: Have the integrity not to expect favours in return. Help people without grabbing their souls!
This happens not just with individuals, but with political parties too; communal politics is nothing but this, buying your soul in the name of religion, and then getting away with murder!
Don't be a Dr Faust, be a person, who keeps his soul for himself and for your God..!
