General Council Meeting passes resolution to express thanks to GoI for granting UT to Ladakh

LEH, Feb 13: The General Council Meeting which commence today at Leh for the first time after Ladakh got Union Territory passed resolution to expressed gratitude to GoI for fulfilling historic and genuine demand of UT for Ladakh.
Resolution moved by Ven. Lobzang Nyantak Councillor Upper Leh and supported by all the members of LAHDC, Leh including Opposition leader Gyurmet Dorjey Councillor Korzok, the house thanked the Govt. of India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narindera Modi and Amit Shah Home Minister GoI for rewarding Ladakh’s outstanding demand by granting Union Territory status for Ladakh by bifurcating J&K and abrogating Article 370 and 35A as well as retaining Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Councils of Leh and Kargil with its existing powers and functions and also assured for further empowering both councils.
Ven. Lobzang Nyantak while moving the resolution highlighted the struggle of Ladakhi people under the leadership of Venerable 19th Kushok Bakula Rinpochay, the modern architect of Ladakh. Ven. Nyantak said that the people of Ladakh have been rigorously demanding Union Territory for Ladakh for seven decades which was carried forward by Thupstan Chhewang later.
