SRINAGAR, Feb 17: Vehicles plied from Jammu to Srinagar today as only one-way traffic was allowed to ply till further orders on the National Highway, the road connecting Kashmir valley with the rest of the country.
According to a traffic police official, one-way traffic would ply on the highway to avoid traffic jam as the road was still very narrow at some places, particularly between Ramban and Ramsu, where only one vehicle could pass at a time.
He said that Kashmir Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) would have to cross Nagrota from 0700 hours to 1200 hours while Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) would be allowed in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh National Highway, the road linking Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh with Kashmir remained closed since the past two months as there was more than six feet to 12 feet of snow on the highway, including at Zojila pass, which has frozen due to below freezing temperature.
Similarly, the historic 86-km-long Mughal Road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch and Anantnag-Kishtwar road remained closed due to accumulation of snow for the past two months.
These roads were likely to reopen in March-April, officials added.
