Asks govt to produce FIR registered in Pulwama case

NEW DELHI, Feb 28: Senior Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi, who is also a senior advocate, on Friday threw a challenge to the government to arrest him if calling the nationwide National Register of Citizens (NRC) as wrong is sedition.
Singhvi demanded that if the law of sedition is to be invoked, it should be against Home Minister Amit Shah and the NIA chief for playing tricks and treachery on the Pulwama attack by issuing statements with no sign, name or letterhead of the government. It is an act of treason and anti-national he said, adding that the two were either incompetent and negligent or guilty of telling lies. Gross negligence in the matter of national security is shocking.
Firing a set of 15 questions on Pulwama, he said the home minister and the NIA chief have no business to remain in power if they do not answer and asked whether giving a clean chit to Jaish-e-Mohd (JeM) terrorist Yousuf Chopan is not a sedition and pretend that JeM were not responsible for Pulwama and the Parliament attack.
He also slammed the duo for not filing a chargesheet against Chopan, an admitted member of the JeM, and then claim that the charge-sheet was not filed against him because of "inadequate evidence." An automatic bail is mandatory if no charge-sheet is filed within the stipulated period under the law,” he said.
The Congress leader wondered about reasons for the government playing soft in its campaign against the known terrorist organisation of JeM and making false claims. He also challenged to produce the FIR registered in the Pulwama case instead of fooling the nation with all sorts of lies.
“If my statement that NRC is dividing the nation is provoking anti-national activities, better arrest me,” Singhvi said in reply to a question at the AICC press briefing here. He challenged the government to deny the link of NRC with the National Population Register (NPR) and explain why three questions were incorporated in NPR, were they not brought in for use in the NRC.
Singhvi said, “It is a matter of shame that those holding the peaceful protests without violence are being booked on the charge of sedition and no action is taken against the ruling BJP leaders themselves spreading hate that led to violence engulfing part of the national capital for three days.”
He said northeast Delhi violence has taken the toll of 42 people and hundreds wounded and still not a single FIR has been filed and a Delhi High Court judge seeking FIRs against those making hate speeches was summarily transferred.
