SRINAGAR, Nov 15: Power development department (PDD) gave a shock to a consumer by sending him a bill of Rs 4 lakhs for three months.
The consumer, Abdul Salam Mir, a resident of Acahbal Adda Anantnag, fainted after he received the bill.
After recovering, the consumer approached the PDD officials and brought the matter to their notice. The PDD officials apologized to him for delivering him the incorrect bill. “The normal tariff I pay for a month is Rs 300 to Rs 400 but today I was shocked to see the bill amounting to nearly Rs 4 lakh for three months. I could have suffered heart attack had not some friends of mine comforted me,” said Mir.
He said that the PDD officials also requested him not to bring the matter to the notice of press. “Such negligence on part of PDD officials can lead to sudden death of a person so I want the matter to be highlighted,” he said.
When contacted assistant executive engineer (AEE), PDD, Anantnag, said that there was a human error while preparing the bill and the same will be rectified.
Meanwhile, complaints about the arbitrary hike in power tariff bills are pouring in from different areas of south Kashmir including Bijbehara, Pahalgam, Anantnag, Aishmuqam and many other places.
