Star Club clinches T20 Umar Memorial Cricket trophy

JAMMU, Mar 12: Star Club and Nizamia Cricket Club Surankote lifted the Umar Memorial T-20 Cricket trophy defeating Nizamia Cricket Club Sorankote by 59 runs in the final match at Surankote today.
After winning the toss, Star Club decided to bat first and scored 184 runs and while chasing the target, Nizamia Cricket Club were bowled out for 125 runs only.
For Star Club, Asif scored 64 runs and Nazir took 3 wickets. Asif was declared as man of the match with 64 runs and 1 wicket. Bilal was declared man of the series with his 233 runs and 7 wickets in total and Waheed has also been declared as man of the tournament with 130 runs and 13 wickets in his pocket and both of them are from Nizamia Cricket club.
The tournament was organised by Pradesh Youth Congress under the leadership of its President Mohd. Shahnawaz Choudhary at Surankote.
A total of 20 teams participated in knockout series
Addl. Deputy Commissioner Poonch Anwar Shah was the chief guest, PYC president Mohd Shahnawaz Choudhary presided over the prize distribution ceremony and SDPO Surankote Javed Mir, Tehsildar Surankote Syed Khan, Company Commander 25RR Shintu, Navjot Singh National Secy. NSUI, Uday Bhanu Chib State President NSUI, Neeraj Kundan National Delegate NSUI and SHO Surankote Sadaqat Qureshi were the guest of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahnawaz Choudhary said that the purpose of organising the tournament is to channelize the youth in positive direction, nation building and to explore the talent of border hilly areas. He asked the youth to come forward and participate in support activities which is an essential part of life. He also said that he will take up the issue of construction of sports stadium at Surankote with Union sports minister as well as with the minister for Sports in J&K govt.
