Mufti, Beig condole Mehta’s demise

JAMMU, Mar 8: The Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed and the PDP Member of Parliament and the former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beig have condoled the death of prominent journalist and Editorial Chairman of the Outlook magazine Vinod Mehta in New Delhi today.
In his condolence message, the Chief Minister described Vinod Mehta as one of the finest journalists of his times who carved a niche for himself in deft political analysis and bold writing. “His experience in the field of print journalism and extremely insightful articles will be deeply missed,” he added.
The Chief Minister expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and conveyed his sympathies to them in their hour of grief.
In his condolence message to the family, Beig said, “Frank & direct in his opinions, Vinod Mehta will be remembered as a fine journalist & writer.”
Vinod Mehta, who successfully launched a number of newspapers and magazines, passed away in New Delhi on Sunday morning after prolonged illness. He was 73.
Mehta, who was Editorial Chairman of ‘Outlook’ magazine which he had founded, had been ailing for several months and was hospitalised at AIIMS.
He was suffering from severe lung infection and was on life support. He died of multiple organ failure.
