Modern Beverages food license suspended

JAMMU, Nov 20: Assistant Commissioner Food Safety/Designated Officer Drugs & Food Control Organization, J&K, Jammu today cancelled Food License of Modern Beverages, manufacturing unit of packaged drinking water and carbonated water situated at Muralian Bishnah.
As per order number FSSA/DO/J/591-96 dated November 20, 2015, Food License of Modern Beverages bearing number 11012130000203 has been cancelled.
Official report said that Assistant Commissioner Food Safety alongwith team comprising of Nazir Ahmad Wani, Controller, Drugs & Food, J&K, Jammu, Khursheed Ahmad Wani, Assistant Commissioner Food Safety, (HQ), Sanjeev Kumar, Assistant Controller Food (MU) and Manzoor Ahmad, Food Safety Officer, block Bishnah inspected the manufacturing unit of packaged drinking water and carbonated water situated at Muralian Bishnah under the name and style of Modern Beverages having proprietor Davinder Daluja son of Daswandi Ram of 81, South Extension Trikuta Nagar, Jammu today.
The officers observed that the manufacturing unit has number of discrepancies. At the time of inspection, the bottle of capacity 200 ml was being filled up and capped manually by the employee without bearing head gear, gloves and mouth cap. The date of packing mentioned on the said packaged drinking water was November 13, 2015 i.e. date earlier than the actual date of packing the water that was against the mandate of the Food Law. No proper record with respect to life of UV lamp, change of filter, Batch wise testing report of the finished product was provided besides no proper testing facility was available in the manufacturing unit. The manufacturing was being done in the unit which is not as per site plan available by the applicant at the time of applying of license.
The team further observed that there was leakage in the processing line and even mould at the joined was apparent. The treatment plant was in very shabby condition, the roof of processing unit was made up of false ceiling made up of ply wood and the clothes were seen in the processing unit. Food Safety Officer, Block Bishnah recommended that the production of packaged drinking water needs to be stopped immediately.
“In exercise of power under Regulation 2.1.8 (4) of the FSS (licensing & Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations 2011, Ajit Singh, Designated Officer/Licensing Authority, district Jammu duly appointed under Food Safety and Standards Act 2006 suspended the license forthwith in the interest of Public Health,” report said.
