JAMMU, Sep 10: The high speed mobile internet services were snapped in this winter capital of the state after an alleged sacrilegious act Saturday evening.
“High speed mobile internet services were snapped last night,” a senior police official here today said.
He said, “The services were snapped after an alleged sacrilegious act was reported last evening in Channi Rama area,” he said and added that an action was initiated to prevent rumour mongers and anti-social elements from spreading hatred on the social media.
He said after monitoring some of the posts and pictures on social media about an alleged sacrilegious act by some trouble shooters, the speed of Internet service was slowed down and later suspended.
“Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was also scheduled to visit today hence we did not want such elements to take advantage and create problem in the city, so mobile services were temporarily been suspended,” said the official.
Snapped internet services affected people especially the traders’ fraternity operating their business online through smart phones.
The services were restored by late this evening. The broadband and WiFi services, however, remained operational throughout the day.
