Shangrilla Public School’s students leaves for Dharamshala Himalayan Trekking Programme

JAMMU, June 9: 4th batch of Tawi Trekkers J&K comprising 45 students including 21 girls of Shangrilla Public School, Sarwal, Jammu left today for Dharamshala to participate in the Dharamshala Himalayan Trekking Programme being organized by Tawi Trekkers under the chairmanship of Anil Goswami, former Home Secretary, Government of India.
Suksham Verma, a senior trekker along with two teachers of the school Ranjana Gandotra and Vandana Manhas escorted the group. Average age of the students is 14 years.
Meanwhile, activists of the club led by Sonam Sidharth, Field Director of the programme, Sourav Deep Singh, a trained mountaineer and Sakshi Magotra, an adventure escort trained and certified by Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi have already made proper boarding, lodging and other necessary arrangements at Chamunda and Macleodganj area for the smooth conduct of the trekking venture.
Earlier, the group was flagged off by Surestha Khajuria, Principal of Shangrilla Public Scxhool. While interacting with the students she advised them to respect and love nature by keeping the camp site as well as the trekking trail neat and clean by not throwing any wrappers of chocolates, toffees, biscuits etc. which shall be issued to them during the trek.
The programme is being organized in cooperation with J&K State Sports Council, Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ibex Adventure Club, Samba, Sprawling Buds ICSE School, Bantalab, Jammu, Adventure Holidays India, Jammu and Adventure Northernland, Jammu.
It may be mentioned that Tawi Trekkers J&K is a voluntary, non profit making, social service organization run by a group of highly dedicated young boys and girls whose only motive is to spread spirit of adventure and love of nature among all strata of society without distinction of colour, caste, creed.
